FIELD
Josh and Dayna went on their first short-term mission trip to Guatemala in May of 2004, and from that moment on knew missions was something they wanted to pursue.
Dayna is a photographer and always wanted to use it to help tell the story of the poor. While on a team in 2007 to Guatemala, Steve Reed of Partnership Ministries said they needed someone to photograph the children of the pastors there for a new program. She asked if she could help, and Missions Door has now appointed her to coordinate partnering U.S. families with pastors’ children to help them with the expenses of sending their children to school.
Dayna travels to Guatemala twice a year to photograph and interview these children and then she communicates with their U.S. partners on their progress and their families. Relationships are the key to this program. Dayna tries to help build genuine relationships between the Guatemalans and their U.S. partners.
Josh and Dayna have a sincere love for the people of Guatemala and their children are following suit. Their oldest daughter Toni has been on three trips and their youngest daughter Eryn is preparing for her first trip.
Their prayer for the future is that this education program would be expanded into other parts of the world. Dayna says, “Every time I see a video or a picture that I have taken while down there, my spirit is stirred anew and there are no words to describe the hunger I have in my heart for the poor in the third world.”
FAITH
Dayna was raised in an active Mormon family. Josh was baptized into the LDS church but was never active.
They both had very troubled childhoods, which led to teenage rebellion, the result of which was Dayna’s teenage pregnancy. They had many struggles in their young married life, but when Dayna was around age 20, her mother sent her a Bible and a letter, explaining why she could no longer participate in the Mormon faith.
Dayna began studying the Word and encountered the true Jesus in those pages. Through a series of events, both she and Josh accepted Christ as their Savior and chose to put their trust in Him. God healed their marriage and mended their hearts.
FAMILY
Dayna’s parents have been leading short-term missions trips to Guatemala with Partnership Ministries for over ten years. Dayna and Josh were married in 1991 and have three wonderful children: Toni, Eryn and Matthew.
