FIELD
As a senior in high school with a Christian background but a less-than-steady Christian walk, Mary Kate blindly applied to SUNY Brockport on a whim, and then learned a great lesson about God’s providence when she was invited to a Campus Ambassadors meeting.
Having had a strong desire for a deeper relationship with God and a passion for evangelism, Campus Ambassadors was an answer to her heart’s cry. Although she had these desires in her heart, she thought committing to Christ meant trading her own spunky, spirited personality in for that of a “sweet, but boring church lady,” a moratorium on fun, and an end to all meaningful relationships with non-Christians.
The students involved in Campus Ambassadors served as examples to Mary Kate of what true commitment to Christ looked like: uncompromising devotion to the person of Jesus, our Creator and Redeemer, who created us in His image to know, love, and serve Him… which, interestingly, didn’t seem to involve any of the aforementioned side effects. Imagine that!
Tangentially involved with the group at first, Mary Kate was asked to take notes at planning meetings. She developed relationships with group members that God used to convict her of her two-faced lifestyle and birthed a desire in her to fully commit to Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Having lived the majority of her teen years in arrogant rebellion and painful confusion, with a lonely need for a relationship with Jesus, she is passionate about reaching other students, to help them understand their need for Christ and what a relationship with Him truly means. She has committed to the powerful ministry God has in Campus Ambassadors at SUNY Brockport as a student intern.
FAITH
Mary Kate’s long journey with Jesus began at age 6 at vacation Bible school. He allowed her to stray from His side for a number of years but called her back to Him after the sudden death of a close friend in high school. They’ve been working on their relationship ever since.
FAMILY
Mary Kate was born into a Catholic family. Her parents received salvation when she was a toddler and raised her and her three brothers up in the truth, praying that they would someday accept God’s personal gift to them in Jesus Christ.
When she is not living on campus during the semester, she lives with her family, their 5 parakeets, 2 cockatiels, elegant black cat, energetic Jack Russell Terrier and the occasional hamster.
