FIELD
Peter was a part-time pastor for two years when he was called to serve full time with the Cambodian ministry of First Baptist Church of Portland, Oregon in 1988. He was ordained in 2001 by the American Baptist Churches USA.
Peter was involved with Cambodian Ministries for Christ on their national ministry board and as international mission coordinator for six years, beginning in 1995. He was elected vice president in 2001 and served till 2008.
Peter has a passion for his people and wanted to reach more Cambodians for God’s Kingdom, beyond the local church. He returned to Cambodia in 1996, continuing to work with CMC to develop and translate Christian literature materials, train leaders and pastors, and plant churches. In 2004 Peter and Shirley were appointed by Missions Door to work with Cambodian churches in North America and in Cambodia.
Currently, Peter and Shirley began the Cambodian Children’s Ministry in Kompong Chhnang Province. The site of the center they plan to build spans 4.8 acres. They are leading short-term mission trips to in order to have help with this project. The mission trips provide church members and leaders the opportunity to be closely involved with the ministry of changing lives of Cambodian children for Christ. There are DVD presentations about this ministry, which you can request via email.
FAITH
Peter was born and raised in the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. His father is Cambodian and his mother is Vietnamese. He was a Buddhist priest apprentice for three years in Kompongspeur Province, living with his uncle before he became a Christian. It was during this time he discovered that Buddhism was unable to show him the meaning of life and true salvation.
When he came home to Phnom Penh in 1973, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, through the new life and witness of his older brother. Peter moved to Oregon in 1983.
Shirley was born in Takmao, Cambodia, and is the youngest child in her family. She accepted Christ in 1980 in a refugee camp in Thailand.
FAMILY
Peter married Shirley in 1987. They have three children, a daughter and two sons.
